Philippine National Mountaineering Society (PNMS) will be organizing an event dedicated to our war heroes who fought gallantly to gain our independence from foreign rule. June 12 is always remembered nationwide as a public holiday wherein we celebrate our Independence Day. During the war, our mountains and rainforests provided refuge, food, and hiding places for our soldiers and heroes. They became natural fortresses which gave them strategic advantage against their oppressor. After the war, a number of monuments were built to commemorate their heroism but we decided to pay our tribute in a different manner. As mountaineers, we believe that we can also celebrate this important event in our own way.

THE 1st ANNUAL FREEDOM CLIMB (June 12-14, 2009)

Initially, we plan a simultaneous flag rising on the 12th of June, 2009 at the summit of 12 different mountains. It doesn’t matter which group you belong; during this time, what matters most is we climb as one. This event will be co-sponsored by some outdoor establishments and private firms who wish to make this event great success. In this regard, we invite you and your group to participate in this celebration. Your presence will surely be a great help in making this event a memorable one. We will form an organizing committee which will be consisting of different heads from different organizations. We scheduled a meeting for different group heads or representative on May 2, 2009 (invitational only). The venue will be announced as soon as possible.
